Piano and Percussion Lessons

Whether you're picking up an instrument for the first time or coming back to music after years away, I offer private, personalized lessons in beginning piano and percussion/drums for students of all ages in Washington, DC. You will find that that I am incredibly patient with a good sense of humor.

Beginning Piano Lessons

My beginning piano lessons are great for any child or adult whether you're just starting out or a few years under your belt. I emphasize not only on learning to read music, but also ear training that will help one play without sheet music. My lessons have an emphasis on building strong fundamentals in technique and music reading, but also ear training which will help playing without music.

Why learn piano? Piano is one of the best instruments to start on, even for students who plan to move on to something else. It lays out music visually in a way no other instrument does, so concepts like rhythm, harmony, and reading music click faster and carry over to whatever a student picks up next. That foundation makes it easier to learn music composition, drums, guitar, voice, or any other instrument down the road.

Drum and Percussion Lessons

I teach drum kit and percussion lessons for all levels from complete beginners to students looking to sharpen technique. You will be learning from a performer with decades of experience in solo performance, orchestras, musical theater and bands. I can tailor lessons to just drum set or any other percussion instrument such as timpani, marimba, xylophone, vibraphone and hand drums.  Like my piano lessons, I emphasize building strong fundamentals in technique and music reading, but also ear training which will help playing without music.

Who I Teach

I work with kids (from ages four or five), teens, and and adults starting fresh or returning to an instrument. Lessons are paced and structured around what works for each individual student.

What to Expect at the First Lesson

I offer a free trial lesson where the student and I will get to know each other. I want my student to make sure I am a good fit for them. We will discuss what makes them excited about music and what they hope to gain from studying with me. After assessing basic skill level and discussing goals I will layout a potential lesson plan

Scheduling

I teach Monday through Friday and offer lessons in 30 minute, 45 minute and 1 hour increments. Let's connect and schedule a trial lesson!
